Ysgol Yr Hafod, Johnstown Book Week
Dear Parents and Carers,
We will be developing our love of reading by having a book week in school starting 31st March. We have planned lots of fun activities to encourage reading including a dress up day on Thursday 3rd April, where children can dress as a book character or they can come to school in non-uniform. Please don’t feel you have to go out and buy a costume- a couple of props will be just as good.
Competition
To kick start our book week, we will be running a competition. This year, the Curriculum Squad has set an exciting challenge for the children—to take a photo or selfie recreating the front cover of one of their favorite books! To enter the competition, please scan the QR code below to upload your child’s entry to Padlet. Winners will be awarded with book fair vouchers. The deadline for entries is Friday 28th March.

Book Fair
We are excited to host our annual Scholastic Book Fair, and this year, we will also be offering a selection of pre-loved books for sale! This is where we need your help—if your child has outgrown a book at home, we’d love to give them a new lease of life by offering them for sale in our pre-loved section at the Book Fair. If your child has a book they would like to donate, please bring them into school by Friday 28th March. Please only send one book per child. The funds raised will be used to purchase new reading resources chosen by the children themselves. We recommend paying with cash due to past technical difficulties. Please see the grid below for further details:
